A trip to Koln aka Cologne

We went to Koln to see the Christmas Markts there. We saw four out of the eight that the city has. We saw the huge Dom with lights surrounding it. We saw a floating Christmas markt. Then there was the Hafen Christmas Markt that had pirates among its patrons. And then we went to the gnome village that had an ice skating rink. We tasted some good treats. We had a crepe with banana and nutella, mushrooms in a garlic sauce, a salmon sandwich, and some tasty kinder punsch and hot chocolate.

It was a good time being together as a family.

Support of the Command

Mark and the US Military Liason who acted as translator for the event

Mark received a medal of Civil Courage from the German Government. He and the two other soldiers that help with an auto accident in March were given this honor. Of course the ceremony was in German and I didn't understand much. I did understand that the act of service that the soldiers gave was very much appreciated by the German government. Thanks to all that came.

We went to the Opel Zoo outside Frankfurt. It was the most fun!! I am so blessed to have a family that shares my joy in ANIMALS!! We enjoyed the day, started with sleeping in and ended it with dinner at the Mayflower.

We went home for summer vacation and loved it!! We stayed with family and to end it off, we had an All Family Reunion!! The Krueger's, Cotner's, Smiley's and Sturdivant's!! What a blast!! There's no better place than home!!

Our family participated in a Volksmarch!! A very big thing here in Germany. Many people participate even as families. We started out walking the 6K, but ended up struggling through a 10K. We did it!!

Burg in German means Castle. We have been in a castle seeking mood lately. I don't know how we missed them the first time we were here.

There was a Hexenmarkt in Idstein about 20 minutes from home. We decided to check it out.

We were early so we spent some time checking out the town.

February is the busiest month in the Krueger household. All the boys turn one more year older.

Somedays you just got to get out of the house and last weekend we had one of those days. We decided to go walk the paths by the Waldlebnispfad again. There was fog covering the city, but the temps were in the high 40's.

We got to get out and enjoy nature. The woods were alive as they are starting to get ready to bloom again for spring.

We even saw an iguana... do you see it all covered in moss?

We climbed on rocks!

We looked at waterfalls.

We even answered the call of nature.

Christmas Fun

Black Friday we got a tree and decorated it.

On the 10th we celebrated with the 24th MI battalion.

On the 14th we went to Kadence's program at school.

finally I crawled up towards the front to take pictures of Kadence's class dancing to Jingle Bell Rock... she is too far left for me to see.....grrrr....

Then, she came to the front for the 12 Days of Christmas.

After the program we went back to the classroom and listened to The Polar Express as we drank hot chocolate and munched on cookies.

Kadence was a happy girl that her lil' bro and I came to see her.

First Christmas Markt of the Season

Our friend Christina (Joe has proclaimed her his girlfriend) walked with Joe and Kadence to the Markt downtown.

They talked her ear off the whole way.

We went to the Wiesbaden Christmas Markt with our friends Maria and Christina. We walked from the PX to downtown Wiesbaden in the cold, cold. We enjoyed looking at the goodies they had for sale and the kids enjoyed some rides. There were lots of things we wanted, but not really needed.

We "needed" more fish and our special Star friend, Ben, went with us to pick them out.

Later in the day we saw this:

It was so good. The kids and dad & I laughed out loud several times. Pascal and Maximus stole the show. Joe loved it. It was worth it to just watch him.

We really enjoyed our day, and tonight as we go to bed it is snowing outside. And Mark and I say, "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it SNOW!!

4th Grade and their Constitution Day Program

The subject was the Constitution.

Marky had a speaking part. He did really well. He was LOUD and he annunciated very well.

Part of their costume was spraying their hair with red, white, or blue.

The kids danced and sang to Lee Greenwood's "Proud to Be an American" a funky version. Marky is the one right smack in the center.

Adventure to Oktoberfest

So, I won two free tickets to Oktoberfest from the USO. Thanks to our friends Lindsey and Hans we were able to go kidless. Nice!! It would have been hard to go with kids since the crowds were CRAZY! We got on a bus at 4 am and got back at 5 am the next morning. Mark and I walked around the festival and we saw lots of things. It was definitely worth the trip, but by 8 pm we were done. The tents were full by 11 am when we arrived with a three hour wait at least to get in. Somehow we ran into some friends from Mark's company. ( I have no clue how) I think our biggest surprise was the amount of people dressed up in lederhosen and dirndels. It was a long day and I was very sore from all the walking. I think we rested for an hour through a twelve hour day of walking. We plan on going again with the kids, but during the day on a family day with our own transportation. Hope you like the pictures!!

We went to the Kurbis fest over in Wallau and celebrated pumpkins. There was lots to do. There was even brats with pumpkin in it or wine made from pumpkins. Interesting!! We felt right at home with it being so close to a farm atmosphere. So excited for the fall.

So this year we had three first days. Mark started 4th grade on the 30th of August. Kadence started Kindergarden on the 7th of September, and Joe started Strong Beginnings (structured preschool) on the 13th September.

It has been way busy around here, but all the kids are happy to be in school and back with their friends.

Have you ever eaten dinner on a boat?

WE DID!!

We went to Mainz Kastel and ate on the ship.

Some swans swimming by the beach. Guess we have had a little rain this year.

Oh and this seagull fought off the other seagulls for the chance we might feed it.

Even though we loved the atmosphere of this restaurant, the kids behavior was wretched. Will be awhile until we go back there.

Walderlebnispfad

I have been wanting to find this park, it seems like a really neat park. We went last weekend and found a nice park, but still not the Walderlebnispfad. So, we tried again, and we tried at the top of the hill instead. We looked and looked, but still didn't see it. So we stopped at a park when frustrated, and then we saw a trail. We walked it, and saw some neat things. We walked it all the way until we found the beginning of the trail we were looking for. Hee hee!!

The Nature Trail on Wiesbaden's backyard hill, the Neroberg,

of the Wiesbaden city forest. What visitors really enjoy is making

phone calls with the "marten telephone" and the opportunity to

book a room at the "woodpecker hotel". Two paths are available,

a longer tour of roughly 3.3 km (17 stations) and a shorter tour of 2.3 km and 12 stations.

We will have to go back to walk the whole trail, but at least we know where it is now. The pictures are in order...lol. More pictures from Mark's camera later.

Organizational Day 2010

We attended O Day for Mark's battalion on Friday. There was lots to see. There was an obstacle course, an Iron Man Competition (sit ups, push ups, chin ups and such), football play offs, and other things. Lots of puppies were there and made us all miss our Chewers. It was a good chance to get out and meet some of the soldiers and they even served us a wonderful meal. Yum!!

Mark's trip to Africa

Mark went to Gabarone, Botswana for a week. He went to teach some classes. While there he was able to get out and see a few things. Overall, the trip was a success. Missed him like crazy while he was gone though!!

We went to an Animal and Plant Park outside Wiesbaden. There were all kinds of animals to see that are native to the area in their natural habitat. The Wheeler's came with us to enjoy the day out in the sunshine. The kids loved feeding the animals and then playing in the sand and playing at the park. There was plenty of things to keep the kids busy. Can't wait to go back again.

Downtown Fun

We went for a walk downtown on Saturday. We were able to visit the market, saw the Gummi Bear Shop, and got some pretzels and croissants. We stopped by a walkway fountain and took a break for lunch. The kids had fun and enjoyed posing for the camera. Mike and Crystal and Savannah made the trip even more fun.

Father's Day

For Father's Day this year we made Daddy Eggs and Bacon and Pancakes. Yummy!! The kids made him a card and he got an egg cooker for his gift. Mark was surprised. That is all we can ask for.

Bowling Can Be Fun

A new Entertainment Center opened up here in Wiesbaden. We decided to go bowling with Mr. Rich and Mister Jake and Mister Brenna. (Our kids name for Brenna.)We all had a good time. Marky didn't do too bad, and Kadence was in the lead (on the kids side) for the first game. Joe got mixed up by the green and tried to bowl with Jake's 14 pound ball. (He was so funny trying to pick it up he reminded me of Jerry Lewis.) The 6 pound ball still made him look like he was dancing with a watermelon. Rich bought cookies for the group and he became the kids new favorite friend. Enjoyed a night out.

Local Park outside Hochheim.

We went on a drive one day and saw this park from the main road. We had heard about it and decided to find it. As we got closer we were amazed at how many people were there and how many areas there were to play in. There were rope bridges to get to the top of the tower and Joe didn't like that you could see through the floor. Kadence whizzed right up to the top. Marky stayed be hind to help out. There was a zip line, a sand area, a rock area, a log area connected to the blue balancing rope area. It was a lot of fun. We plan on going back with a lunch and some tools for the sand.

and today at the library we found this awesome book by Gilles Bachelet.

We left the library today and he was so excited to get home and read his new book he didn't care about the park or anything else....JUST THE BOOK!! Kadence just doesn't get why we keep talking about the "cat" in the book. A must read ... at least Joe Joe thinks so.

Down at the Farm?

Today we went to a Big farm that is near the Airfield. They were having a Children's fest and lots of activities to do and a way to go in and see what they have there. It is a market with cheese, vegetables, meat (all kinds), bakery and cafes. ALL FRESH!!! YUMMY!!

Anyway, there was a place where the kids got cards and then had to go do the obstacles. From balancing a glass to throwing hoops on to poles. After they finished the task they got a "punkt" or a sticker to put on their card. Really neat.

First task was was "hin und zuruck" across different textures barefoot.

Kadence is telling me what they were walking on. Dirt to sand to rocks to grain to grass at the end.

They had to Jump in a burlap sack. Love how the wind is in Kadence's hair. Joe had a little trouble with his bag, seeing as how he was shorter than the bag.

At the end when they had all their punkts they got to pick out a prize. Kadenc picked out bath confetti... such a girl! and the boys got gummi's with cola.

At the end of the fest for us there was a Kinder Quiz. We took it and with my limited German and Mark's brains we didn't do half bad. We were given a bag of goodies including fresh strawberries, carrots and an apple.

We enjoyed walking around looking at the animals. Mark and I had some goats who wanted a piece of us aka trying to eat our sweatshirts, and Joe got to see his second loved animal, cows, since there were no elephants there.

Fun in Frankfurt

We had such a good time in Frankfurt. We rode on a train

and then rode on a cable car to get to the zoo.

We spent most of the morning there. Mark took wonderful

pictures and I tried to keep up. We went to see many sights.

One being the Stock Exchange (the outside of the stock

exchange that is). Outside is the Bull and Bear.

We went to the Ratskeller (we think) which is the local

government building where the mayor does her business.

We tried to keep up with Mike, at least we think his

name was Mike.... and we walked, and walked and walked.

The kids had us wanting to pull our hair out with how much

complaining they did, but then Joe would say or do something

and we'd all laugh again.

Altogether a pretty good day.

Marky and the rest of the 3rd graders from Hainerberg Elementary were asked to sing and be part of the entertainment at this years BBFC. Big Bucks For College. He really wanted to be a part of it, so we went and he did really well for only being in Music class for less than a month. Real proud of him. They sang three songs and posted is his favorite.

We went to Biebrich which is right along the Rhein River. We have done a lot of shopping down there the last time we were in Germany. It was where our favorite Chinese restaurant was, it is closed now. We went with some friends of ours.

Our new patio set that we got from a nice lady who is moving back to the states next week.

My new window box that Mark put up for me so I can plant some herbs.

We went and got strawberry plants from OBI, like Home Depot, to put in my topsy turvy.

My tulips from Mainz Market and apples from the commissary.

It was a very busy day. we got up and went to try and buy a car, but both the guys selling decided today was not the day. BUMMER!! So, we decided to lift our spirits and go to Market. First we got schoko croissants... yummy pastry filled with chocolate. Then went around all the yummy market stuff and found.....these.

Morels... oh can't wait to fry 'em up.

Market was wonderful and we just kept having a good day. The kids were tiring today, but they were troopers and we spent the day out. I know shocking right?? Anyway it is good to be back in Germany with new people to hang out with, but missing the friends who are home in the states. So many things remind us old times and family and friends.

Field Trip to Mainz

At the end of the German Headstart program the class takes a field trip, and the family is allowed to come along. The trip was to Mainz.

Our house... in the middle of the street... our house.... Yes, we the Krueger's are back in Germany again. We arrived on the 1st of April and have been walking everywhere. We got a house on our second day here and are so excited!! It's a 4 bedroom and seems spread out compared to our house in Virginia. This weekend was a German holiday and nothing was open. Next time I blog we will have our household goods. Looking forward to having all our house stuff back and to get our truck....who knows when, but hopefully it will go as smoothly as everything else has so far.

We went to Phoenix with the crew minus one--we missed you Ralph --and had a blast. We went to the Renaissance Festival in Mesa and saw so many things. We enjoyed ourselves and loved spending time with our friends. Then after crashing at Nona's (Thank you Erin's Mom) we got up the next day and went to the Phoenix zoo!! It was so much fun just hanging out in the sunshine and seeing the animals. Really was the best!! Thanks kids for being rather awesome and Gabe and Erin, and Leian for taking the time out and spending the weekend with us!!

We went to the Reid Park Zoo in Tucson with our friends. It started raining 15 minutes after we got there.

Tenth Anniversary

Mark and I were married January 20th, 2000. Can't believe it has been ten years!! Ten year gifts are either tin or diamonds. I got a beautiful set of tornado diamonds and Mark received a beautiful stainless straight razor set. Closest thing to tin that I knew he'd like. We have had many things happen in our life together. We love four wonderful kids and spent time in lots of different places.

Mark was pinned a Warrant Officer on November 10th, 2009. He went to Fort Rucker, AL for five weeks where he went to class and learned about what it takes to become an officer. He excelled at the school and we are so glad to have him back home.

We had a great Halloween. We went to the library to listen to Halloween stories and make some hauntingly cool crafts. Next we were off to the church for some ghoulish fun and of course the trunk and treat. Lastly we trick or treated around our block while our nice neighbors handed out our candy. Glad it is over...now to prepare for daddy to come home!

Today our baby girl turned five. We had a great day. First we baked her a cake. Then we went to Payless Shoes to spend birthday money and got two pairs, thanks to Oprah. Then we had lunch at Noodles N Company... we had a buy one get one free card. Then we came home to PRESENTS!! She had a good day!!

She asked for a GI Joe cake in August, little did I know she would still want one come October.

I tried, but daddy is the true artist.

She blew a kiss to Aunt Karen for her new Raincoat.

She had few requests this year. She really wanted a zu- zu pet and Clothes!! Grandma made her nightgown. She had all her birthday wishes come true. I wished for a great day for her. She told me as we made pizza tonight..."This is the best Day EVER!" That made it the best day ever for me too.

The School has a Keep It Simple Sweetie Program. It is for kids that are going into Kindergarten next year. It is to help the kids learn strategies to read and to help parents help their kids. Joe and Kadence had such a good time. Marky sat and did homework. The take home project was to color the figures from the Hey Diddle Diddle Nursery Rhyme.

The kids also got a new book. No, David by David Shannon. It is a funny book about a boy who gets in trouble a lot. I think the book was secretly written about Joe. I highly recommend it.

We love a good fair. We went to the state fair for Virginia right outside Richmond. We enjoyed looking at the animals and watching the rides. The food was awesome too. Deep fried food is Da' Bomb!!

Papa Mark, Angie and Kaden came to visit for the Fourth of July. Thankfully they got here early enough to rest and Wal~Mart let me out early and we saw some cool fireworks put off by the Post.

We went to spend time with the Sturdivants in Northern Kentucky.

On the way North from Cave City, we stopped and said Hi to Mo the "King of the Sea" and got some souvenirs.

We went to the American History Museum and the George Washington Memorial the last week of Gage's vacation here with us in DC.

Books of Summer

I love to read and I have read many books this summer. I bet Gage that he couldn't finish Twilight by the time I read The Host. (He was half way through) Well, He beat me by 8 hours. He received a King Size Snickers for his labor. I hope that he and the other kids see their dad and I read that they will cultivate a desire to read and discover new things and places through books.

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

Also the author of the Twilight series.

This book was such a fast read. I loved how she made a cave seem livable and then aliens human. It definitely was not Twilight, but at the same caliber.

Rebekah by Orson Scott Card

Really good and makes you want to go back and reread the bible stories from the old testament. Card helps you to see what like might have been like for a woman in biblical times. I really enjoyed how Rebekah came to life as a spunky and willful woman who was still obedient to the Lord's will.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

Have wanted to start the Potter Series for awhile and the book was ok. I was spoiled by the movies. Maybe I will be more enthralled by the rest.

No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith

Loved the show on HBO and before that Sister Nielson at church suggested his series of books. I have read three out of the seven books and have not been let down once. Precious is such a lovable character. I have enjoyed figuring out the mysteries along with the PI from the bush.

Summer has been adventurous...

We have been busy this summer!! We have been trying to have lots of fun with out spending too much. Memorial Day we made a fast and furious trip to get Gage and were lucky enough to have family meet us on our way back through. We were able to go to the zoo in Louisville and see the Louisville Slugger Museum. We spent the night at a fancy hotel and swam. Grandpa Jim even treated us to some good eats.

We were able to get a good deal on some Nats tickets and even got to see the game with a delay due to rain. We've seen some good movies... Transformers, Up, Star Trek. We got a family pass to go swimming at the pools on post will post more pics when we get them. We went to the Catoctin Mountains National Park in Maryland and hiked up to Thurmont Vista. Mom and the little ones needed a break after that. We went to Six Flags with Uncle Erik before he he left to go be with his family. All in all not bad for a summer, but still so much left to do. The 4th is upon us, and we look forward to being with family. Hope your summer is as full as ours!! And it it's not even over yet....

Marky had his first musical concert, and Mom, Joe, and Kadence were there to support him. Kadence decided she'd clap after mom reminded her that she'd want people clapping for her. Joe on the other hand LOVED clapping. It was his favorite part.

Uncle Erik is in a school at Fort Eustis, about 2 1/2 hours from where we live. We went and camped there this weekend. The kids loved it.

DC Home show

Satruday afternoon we went to the Home show over by Dulles Airport. Mark and I love to look at all the things that we will some day choose from to make our DREAM Home. The show was endorsed by Ty Pennington. He sent some exhibit material and a friend, Rib. We sat and listened to Rib talk about his acting career and to what a week in the life a Home Makeover is like. The kids did pretty well even though we threatened them with their lives. We saw plenty of things to dream about and the kids got lots of magnets, bags and candy from the vendors. (Imagine the building at the County Fair with tables set up for local vendors) We all had a pretty fun day.
